Feb 3- Art Exhibition @ Bajo El Sol Gallery, St.John

    Date: 02/03/2017 - 02/28/2017

Time: 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Category: Art Openings, Island, and St.John

Art Exhibition “Lucid Dreaming” at Bajo El Sol Gallery On Friday, February 3rd, at 6pm the Gri Gri Project at Bajo El Sol Gallery in Mongoose Junction, St. John will be hosting the opening of its exhibition “Lucid Dreaming.” “Lucid Dreaming” features new mixed media paintings by Aimee Trayser (St. John), ink on paper drawings by Andrew Barlas Jr. (St. John), oil paintings by Amy Gibbs (St. Thomas), Marta Isabel Pérez (St. Thomas/Puerto Rico) and Elisa Lacatena (St. Thomas), handbound books by Susan Edwards (St. Thomas) and metal sculptures by Mike Walsh (St. Croix). The opening’s special guest artist will be video artist Bill Stelzer (St. John). Lucid dreaming provides artists a chance to experiment with the extraordinary abilities buried in unused parts of the brain. During lucid dreaming the dreamer is aware of the act of dreaming. The dreamer may be able to exert some degree of control over the dream’s characters, narrative, and environment. In reference to this phenomenon, Greek philosopher Aristotle observed, “Often when one is asleep, there is something in consciousness which declares that what then presents itself is but a dream.” The show will run until February 28. Mongoose Junction’s monthly “First Friday” art & music event will be occurring the same evening from 6 pm to 9 pm. Bajo El Sol is located upstairs above Hot Look Sunglasses and Sun Dog Café.

    Feb 25 – 8 Tuff Miles

    Date: 02/25/2017

Time: 7:15 am to 12:00 am

The 21st Annual St. John  8 Tuff Miles Road Race Festival What to do & what Not to do on Race Day 2017 Do not carry water or no need to carry water… There are 12 water stations and each station has both water and Gatorade. What to do and what not to do on Race Day 2017 For those traveling from St. Thomas to St. John on the morning of the race, Saturday February 25th there will be two ferry boats just for you and the other 500 entries that live on St. Thomas or who are staying on St. Thomas. These ferry boats will leave from Red Hook at 6:00 AM & 6:15 AM. Do not be late. Arrive to the dock area at least 15 minutes before these boats are scheduled to depart. Remember there is limited parking in Red Hook so planning ahead is important. Ferry boat tickets are $7.00 each and can be purchased up to 10 days before they are used. Save time by making this purchase earlier in the week. Tell your friends to do the same. Our boats are the Varlack Venture ones. These boats will dock at the NPS Visitor Center when they arrive in Cruz Bay. The Race Committee strongly recommends that you do not take the car barge on the morning of the race. The above mentioned ferry boats are the only boats we are working with. In other words, do not take the car barge.Parking in Cruz Bay: Good luck! Please make arrangements to be dropped off. Parking in Cruz Bay is difficult on a good day. On race day there are hundreds of people looking for a parking spot. Please make arrangements to be dropped off. Final Bib Number Pick-up: For those who registered on-line or for those who are in the Top 100 Corral you may pick up your bib numbers on the morning of the race between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM at the starting line area. Follow the signs that are on site. More details regarding earlier bib number pick up will be posted in mid to late January. On the morning of the race pin your bib number to the front of your body. Do not pin the large whole on the pull off tag portion. SAG Wagon: Anyone who I registered for the race and wearing their bib number on the front of their body may check in a small back pack with the SAG wagon personal. The SAG (STUFF & GEAR) Wagon will be parked near the road and across the street from Margarita Phil’s. You must be wearing your bib number in order to check in your bag /back pack. Your bag will be delivered and waiting for you at the Coral Bay finish line. Restrooms: If possible try and use yours at home! We will have port-o-johns at the starting area but no matter how many port-o-johns we have there are never enough and there will be lines. If you are coming from St. Thomas use the facilities at the Red Hook Port Authority Building or on the boat. Plan ahead and be in place for the 7:15 AM start. Restrooms will also be at the finish line area. Transportation back to Cruz Bay: Everyone is on their own. Taxis are usually around and can cost up $10.00 per person. Hitch hiking is always an option on St. John. Your Tee Shirt will be waiting for you at the finish line. You must finish the race to receive your tee shirt and finisher medal. That’s the way it work! Awards: The Ninth Mile Award Ceremony will be at Mongoose Jct. in Cruz Bay just across the street from the starting line area and will begin at or around 3:30 PM. Here the awards and college scholarship announcements will be made. This part of the day should not be missed. This is also when we will be drawing names for our door prizes that include, A one thousand dollar shopping spree at Mongoose Jct. , a weekend at the St John Inn, plus we have four tickets on Cape Air from STT to PR and more. Live music with Brother Nature will be part of the year’s award ceremony along with ale from the Tap Room and pig roast and chicken apps plus veggie foods. Date: 02/26/2017

Time: 12:00 am to 12:00 am

Category: Island, St.John, and Live Music

What To Do in Cruz Bay – The February Live Music Scene There is plenty of live music going on most every night in Cruz Bay this season. Most venues are a short stroll from one another, making it easy to visit more than one in the same evening.  Many bars and restaurants tend to have a regularly scheduled performer on set days of the week. If you find your favorite, chances are you can catch them more than once while visiting. You will find them listed below by establishment.  Some of the more music-heavy establishments like the Beach Bar and this season the Barefoot Cowboy, will bring in bands from away.  This is a real treat for locals and these nights draw big crowds and make for fun parties!  There are no cover charges. Our suggestion: start off by catching a regular performer during one of the many St.John happiest of happy hours. Move on to the next venue for a soulful blend of music paired with appetizers and dinner. Top it off with night caps and your dancing shoes.   Barefoot Cowboy Mondays: Erin Hart 6:00 -9:30 Tuesdays: Matt Mikrut 6:00- 9:30 Wednesdays: Jason L Jones 6:00- 9:30 Thursdays: The Wandering Bridge Band 6:00 -9:30 Fridays: Miss Ingrid 6:00 -9:30 Special Events Sunday Feb 12: Zach Deputy 7:00-9:00 Tuesday Feb 14: Mel Knapp 8:00pm – 10:00pm Beach Bar 2/10/17  Mel Knapp – 9:00 pm 2/11/17 T-Bird & Her Flock – 9:00 pm 2/13/17 Mel Knapp – 9:00 pm 2/14/17 Zach Deputy – 9:00 pm 2/15/17 St Groovus – 9:00 pm  2/16/17 Mitch Woods – 9:00 pm 2/25 Melissa Joiner 5:00 pm 2/28 Melissa Joiner 9:00 pm Cinnamon Bay Campground Wednesdays: Bo and Miss Ingrid host open mic night 5-8pm Cruz Bay Landing Mondays: Chris Carsel 6:00 till 9:00 Tuesdays: T-Bird 6:00 till 9:00 Wednesdays: Dennison Blackett 6:00 till 9:00 Thursdays: Lexi Bittinger 6:00 till 9:00 Fridays: Mark Wallace 6:00 till 9:00 Saturdays: Haile 6:00 till 9:00 Sundays: Broheem 6:00 till 9:00 Morgan’s Mango Wednesdays: TBA 6:30-9:30 Thursdays: TBA 6:30-9:30 Fridays: Lauren (or sometimes Bo) 6:30-9:30 Ocean|362 Mondays & Saturdays:  “Broheem with Love”  soul-soothing melodies  6:30-8:30pm Special Events Miss Ingrid the “soul songstress” will be performing at our Mother’s Day Dinner from 6-9pm.  Ocean Grill Mondays & Fridays : Rascio on Steel Pan 6-9 Tuesdays : Broheem – jazzy sax 6-9 Wednesdays : Lauren vocals & guitar 6-9 Thursdays : Chris Carsel : guitar & vocals 6-9 Rhumblines Saturdays: Lauren  6:30-9:30 Sun Dog Cafe  The famous Sunday Night Jam from 6 to 9 pm Westin’s Lemon Grass Restaurant Mondays: Bo and Miss Ingrid 4:30-6:60 Did we miss something?
