Eric Stone back in the VI @ Barefoot Cowboy

    Date: 05/19/2017 - 05/24/2017

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Category: Island, St.John, and Live Music

We are excited to announce the return of Eric Stone to Barefoot Cowboy for two nights this May, the 19th and the 24th. Sprinkled through the titles of Eric Stone’s eleven CDs lie a string of island adventures that every salty sailor hopes to have. “Bomba’s Shack,” “Dominica Discovery,” “Bequia Kind of Day,” “One Night at Corsairs” and “Goodbye Trinidad” are all stories lived and memories made by this talented sailing, surfing, songwriting singer. His music is a comfortable mix of rock, pop and country but since all that he writes is water related he likes to describe his art as Nautical Americana. “Everything I do,” he explained, “Revolves around sailing.”

Reef Bay Hike led by Virgin Islands National Park Service Rangers - 05/22/2017

    Date: 05/22/2017

Time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Reef Bay Hike with NPS Join National Park Service Rangers for the premier hiking experience in Virgin Islands National Park! Reservations and purchase of transportation vouchers for the Reef Bay Hike, led by Virgin Islands National Park Service Rangers, will now be done through the Friends of the Park Store located street-side in Mongoose Junction. Step back in time while experiencing a moist tropical forest as you hike down the verdant Reef Bay Valley. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to learn about the people who have called St John home and about their relationship to the natural world. Sugar plantation ruins, stone walls from cattle grazing, and ancient rock carvings left behind by the pre-Colombian Taino can be found along the trail. This evidence from the past is a reminder of changes over time on the island. The oldest and tallest trees on the island can be found in this valley, creating a canopy of shade for hikers and a habitat for a variety of wildlife. Throughout time, people survived using vines, trees, flowers and fruits that are now preserved and protected for future generations. This is a very popular activity and advance reservations are highly recommended.Inquiries about reservations for the hike at the NPS Visitor Center will be directed by counter staff to the Friends of the Park Store. The schedule for trips will be as follows: January – April: 3 trips/week (Mon, Tue, Thu) May – August 15: 2 trips/week (Mon, Thu) August 16 – October: 2 trips/week (Mon & Thu) November – December: 2 trips/week (Mon, Thu) The frequency of trips may be modified by the NPS based on demand or other conditions. All details of the trip will remain the same: the taxi to the Reef Bay Trailhead will depart the National Park Visitors Center promptly at 9:30 a.m. and return to Cruz Bay by boat between 2:30pm – 3:00 pm.Vouchers should be picked up from the Friends of the Park Store in Mongoose Junction, and we encourage pick up in the days prior to the hike. Cruz Bay Live Music, May - 05/22/2017

    Date: 05/22/2017

Time: 12:00 pm to 12:00 am

    Category: St.John and Live Music

What To Do in Cruz Bay – May’s Live Music Scene There is plenty of live music going on most every night in Cruz Bay this season. Most venues are a short stroll from one another, making it easy to visit more than one in the same evening. Many bars and restaurants tend to have a regularly scheduled performer on set days of the week. If you find your favorite, chances are you can catch them more than once while visiting. You will find them listed below by establishment. Some of the more music-heavy establishments like the Beach Bar and this season the Barefoot Cowboy, will bring in bands from away. This is a real treat for locals and these nights draw big crowds and make for fun parties! There are no cover charges. Our suggestion: start off by catching a regular performer during one of the many St.John happiest of happy hours. Move on to the next venue for a soulful blend of music paired with appetisers and dinner. Top it off with night caps and your dancing shoes. Caribbean Triple Crown Poker Run Series - 05/28/2017

    Date: 05/28/2017

THE BIGGEST NAUTICAL EVENT IN THE CARIBBEAN MAY 28 BVI         JUNE 2 USVI         July 29 SXM Fifteen years ago, the Leverick Bay Poker Run was born in the British Virgin Islands. This now-famous family-focused nautical event attracts hundreds of boaters from around the Caribbean. The event has had a positive impact on the BVIs, increasing tourism, unifying the community and benefiting local charities. In 2016, The Leverick Bay BVI Poker Run had more than 250 participating boats and over 3,000 attendees, making it the premier nautical event in the Caribbean. The success of the Leverick Bay Poker Run has helped to launch two new events: The Stars and Stripes Poker Run in St. Thomas, USVI and The St. Maarten Poker Run. The popularity of these three events and the enthusiastic participation from both local and international visitors has inspired the creation of the biggest nautical event in the region to date: The Caribbean Triple Crown Poker Run series. The Caribbean Triple Crown Poker Run will serve as an umbrella organization supporting all three events, assuring the highest quality and safety standards, increasing the sponsorship value and bringing together fellow boaters from the entire Caribbean, the United States and beyond. The Festival & Cultural Organization of St. John invites you to the Festival Poker Run at the Cruz Bay Beach Front. On St. John contact Guilderoy Sprauve at 340-690-9340 for more information.
