Virgin Islands Campgrounds

St. John St. Thomas

Cinnamon Bay Campground

Mainstream camping ranges from Glamping at an average rate of $200 a night at Concordia Eco-Resort  on St. John, to $35 per night at the Reef to Ridge Organic Farm on St. Croix. Some other popular campgrounds on St. John are at Cinnamon Bay , starting at $95 per night, and the newly open Hansen Bay. Select an island  for a complete list for your location.

Virgin Islands Guest Houses, Budget Inns and Boutique Hotels

St. John St. Thomas

Boutique hotels are small with an emphasis on style, ambiance and charm. Budget inns and guest houses are clean and comfy but nothing fancy. In the Virgin Islands, budget accommodation often include an owner operated restaurant on site. Your staff will be friendly and competent but there won’t be anyone to wait on you hand and foot.

A charming example of a St. Thomas budget hotel is the family run Bunker Hill. The Bunker Hill Hotel is located on the winding streets behind Charlotte Amalie’s shopping district, about a four minute walk from the waterfront. Inside, flights of red tiled stairs lead to multiple levels of balconies overlooking Hassel Island and the patchwork rooftops of Charlotte Amalie, two pool decks with small pools, and two restaurants – The Sugarcane Grille and a separate dining area where a wonderful complimentary breakfast is served.

Virgin Islands Bed and Breakfasts

St. John St. Thomas

Papaya, pastry and coffee by the Caribbean Sea. What could be more enchanting? Virgin Island B&Bs are more intimate than the large hotels but do not lack in luxury. Expect charming accommodations hosted by fascinating owners, many of whom left it all behind for the slower island pace. Great stories are no extra charge.

House of Open Arms on St. John has all the personality you would expect from an owner hosted inn. Artist and owner Catherine Perry produces her sought after artwork from the studio/gallery on the property. The homemade meals she lovingly cooks for her guests are something you won’t find at a traditional hotel.

Virgin Islands Resorts

St. John St. Thomas

Gallows Point Resort

Resorts and traditional hotels have more acreage and amenities – tennis courts, multiple restaurants, spa & fitness facilities, on-site beach, water sport rentals, and a variety of room types on offer. Our popular resorts and hotels on St. Thomas include the St. Thomas Marriott (closed) on the south side and the St. Thomas Ritz Carlton on the east.  Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville recently opened on St. Thomas in Smith Bay, which is also home to the only Virgin Islands all-inclusive resort, Sugar Bay Resort (closed).

On St. John, we recommend Gallows Point Resort for its history and tranquility. Gallow’s unique location nestled among terraced gardens and perched above the sea provides complete privacy while being steps away from the shops and restaurants of downtown Cruz Bay

Virgin Islands Eco Resorts

St. John St. Thomas

Eco Resort are accommodation designed to minimize impact on the environment. These resorts are environmentally responsible and follow the practices of green living. Eco Resorts typically offer stand alone eco-cabins or eco-tent with common areas like pavilions, gardens, pools, and restaurants. Amenities tend to be wellness based such and yoga classes, staff body-workers, and health conscious dining options.

We recommend Concordia Eco Resort  a self-sustained resort run by wind and sun. Surrounded by pristine National Park, each eco-tent opens to sweeping vistas of Salt Pond Beach, Drunk Bay, Leduck Island Bird Sanctuary, Ram’s Head Point and the Drake Passage. Elevated walkways wind through open air restaurant, the yoga pavilion, and the hillside swimming pool deck so as not to disturb the natural flora and fauna of the surrounding ecosystem.

Each tent-cabin offers a private toilet, shower, kitchen, deck, running water and refrigerator. Ask Concordia’s friendly staff about the cutting edge environmental technology that allows you to have these luxury amenities in an off the grid structure.

Vacation Homes and Villas

St. John St. Thomas

Rental homes can range from modest to magnificent. They are managed by a vacation rental company or offered directly by the home owners. Renting a villa or home is an excellent way for multiple families to travel together and enjoy fully-equipped kitchens, which can be a real money saver for large parties. They’re also great for couples looking for a small but well-appointed getaway with plenty of privacy.

Cottages and Shackteaus

These aren’t quite fancy enough to be called a villa, either because they’re really more of a cottage, a lower-level apartment, a studio or even just a bedroom with private bath. These rentals can be found here on What To Do – VI or on Craigslist, VRBO or Airbnb. They’re great for the budget traveler, solo-travelers, or couples. These “tiny villas” are trending in the Virgin Islands.

Vacation Rentals by Owners

These homes are privately-owned by folks who live here part of the year. Vacation rentals by owners come in many different varieties and can be found throughout the Virgin Islands. Privately managed rentals usually have full kitchens so that you can save some moolah and calories by cooking some meals for yourself.

Luxury Villas and Managed Properties

Booking your vacation home through a Virgin Islands property management company is a excellent way to assure your rental is immaculately maintained and well appointed. In addition, many management companies provide additional planning services like booking tours, concierge services or personal recommendations based on years of living and working in the islands.

We recommend St. John Ultimate Villas or Island Dream Vacations on St. Thomas. They represent the finest luxury villas and cater to the most discriminating traveler.

Virgin Islands Yachts and Term Charters

Why not combine your accommodations, transportation, and activities into one floating package? For the adventurous, renting a boat is a terrific option. Boat rentals range from a floating home that never leaves its slip, to bareboat charters, to yacht with a captain and full staff.

Vacation Ownership, Fractional Real Estate and Virgin Islands Timeshares

If you vacation in the Virgin Islands annually or even regularly, you might consider fractional ownership. Timeshares are offered by many Virgin Islands luxury resorts or in private developments that cater to vacation owners exclusively. This is an affordable option if you want to own a home in the Virgin Islands.
