Virgin Islands Campgrounds
Mainstream camping ranges from Glamping at an average rate of $200 a night at Concordia Eco-Resort on St. John, to $35 per night at the Reef to Ridge Organic Farm on St. Croix. Some other popular campgrounds on St. John are at Cinnamon Bay , starting at $95 per night, and the newly open Hansen Bay. Select an island  for a complete list for your location.
Virgin Islands Guest Houses, Budget Inns and Boutique Hotels
Boutique hotels are small with an emphasis on style, ambiance and charm. Budget inns and guest houses are clean and comfy but nothing fancy. In the Virgin Islands, budget accommodation often include an owner operated restaurant on site. Your staff will be friendly and competent but there won’t be anyone to wait on you hand and foot.
A charming example of a St. Thomas budget hotel is the family run Bunker Hill. The Bunker Hill Hotel is located on the winding streets behind Charlotte Amalie’s shopping district, about a four minute walk from the waterfront. Inside, flights of red tiled stairs lead to multiple levels of balconies overlooking Hassel Island and the patchwork rooftops of Charlotte Amalie, two pool decks with small pools, and two restaurants – The Sugarcane Grille and a separate dining area where a wonderful complimentary breakfast is served.
Virgin Islands Bed and Breakfasts
Papaya, pastry and coffee by the Caribbean Sea. What could be more enchanting? Virgin Island B&Bs are more intimate than the large hotels but do not lack in luxury. Expect charming accommodations hosted by fascinating owners, many of whom left it all behind for the slower island pace. Great stories are no extra charge.
House of Open Arms on St. John has all the personality you would expect from an owner hosted inn. Artist and owner Catherine Perry produces her sought after artwork from the studio/gallery on the property. The homemade meals she lovingly cooks for her guests are something you won’t find at a traditional hotel.
Virgin Islands Resorts
Resorts and traditional hotels have more acreage and amenities – tennis courts, multiple restaurants, spa & fitness facilities, on-site beach, water sport rentals, and a variety of room types on offer. Our popular resorts and hotels on St. Thomas include the St. Thomas Marriott (closed) on the south side and the St. Thomas Ritz Carlton on the east. Â Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville recently opened on St. Thomas in Smith Bay, which is also home to the only Virgin Islands all-inclusive resort, Sugar Bay Resort (closed).

They’re also great for couples looking for a small but well-appointed getaway with plenty of privacy.
Cottages and Shackteaus
These aren’t quite fancy enough to be called a villa, either because they’re really more of a cottage, a lower-level apartment, a studio or even just a bedroom with private bath. These rentals can be found here on What To Do – VI or on Craigslist, VRBO or Airbnb. They’re great for the budget traveler, solo-travelers, or couples. These “tiny villas” are trending in the Virgin Islands.

These homes are privately-owned by folks who live here part of the year. Vacation rentals by owners come in many different varieties and can be found throughout the Virgin Islands. Privately managed rentals usually have full kitchens so that you can save some moolah and calories by cooking some meals for yourself.
