    Calabash Cottages

Calabash Cottages HURRICANE UPDATE: We want to let everyone know that Susan, Paul and the staff of Calabash cottages are fine. The houses survived in very good condition. We will update you with information about when the island is again ready to receive visitors again. Calabash Cottages offers charming and private cottages and villas in quiet secluded locations. Our main focus is to provide an assortment of options for couples in a tranquil setting. Our four homes on St. John each accommodate two people but we do have options for larger groups.Windwardside Main House and Guest Cottage can be rented together to accommodate 4 persons in two bedrooms. When rented separately the homes do not share any facilities other than a parking area. Sago Cottage is about 1/4 mile distant from Windwardside. Tortuga Cottage is located in central Coral Bay above the harbor and offers the convenience of walking to local restaurants, groceries, and the shoreline. Our St. John homes each feature a beautiful ocean view and a private hot tub. All of our homes are perfect choices for a honeymoon guests. Windwardside Is an elegant retreat with lovely furnishings, a beautiful view, and lush tropical gardens. It is the most intimate and traditional of all of our homes In Coral Bay. The design is reminiscent of a bygone era in the Caribbean but the amenities are modern and designed for comfort. My husband (a retired builder on the island) and I designed this home. We have years of experience of offering visitors to the island an unusual experience that brings them outside of their day to day life but is a comfortable and welcoming home away from home. Recent renovations to the house have added much to its beauty and charm. This traditional West Indian style home consists of multiple buildings with a large central courtyard. The main house consists of two buildings: the first is a detached bedroom/bathroom with a veranda that looks over the courtyard, gardens, and sea; the second is the “great house”. The great house is entered through a roomy screened-in porch which holds a beautifully furnished dining room and a cushioned window seating area. There is a full kitchen and living room, an adjoining bath, plus an inviting covered porch overlooking the sea. Larger groups can rent Windwardside guest cottage as an additional bedroom. Windwardside Guest Cottage Is a charming little cottage that enjoys gorgeous views of the east end of St. John, the neighboring British Virgin Islands and Coral Bay. This home can be rented in conjunction with the main house at Windwardside or alone as your own little piece of paradise. The lush tropical plantings, built in privacy screening and the orientation of the buildings seclude them from one another. The guest cottage is very appealingly furnished, has a private hot tub, an airy enclosed shower garden and a comfortable front porch overlooking the sea. Sago Cottage Is a charming home nestled into the hillside above Coral Bay on St. John, Virgin Islands. Sago Cottage is a traditional West Indian structure – open and airy with brightly painted shutters and covered decks overlooking a gorgeous view. From its intimate and tasteful furnishings to its private hot tub under the stars, it is the perfect spot for a romantic holiday for two. The details and amenities are designed to give our guests an experience of the West Indies of a bygone era. With the cooling breezes and the captivating view you may never want to leave this idyllic hideaway. Tortuga Cottage Is the newest edition to Calabash Cottages. Tortuga is a cheerful and welcoming cottage with a gorgeous view of Coral Bay Harbor. This cottage has wonderful breezes, beautiful sunrises and moonrises, covered and uncovered decks plus a “hammock garden”. There is a private hot tub overlooking the Caribbean sea For those who are familiar with Calabash Cottages, Tortuga Cottage is not in the same Calabash Boom location. The cottage is located just outside of Coral Bay. Although private, it is not as remote and secluded as Sago and Windwardside. On the other hand for our guests that have bemoaned the bumpy road, Tortuga could be your choice! This road is entirely paved and within walking distance of several bars and restaurants and shops.
