I am 70, with a daughter disabled from birth. Plan on coming down for a few months to see what it is like actually living there when not a tourist. Have thought it would be a good place to spend my last years and my daughter would probably do better is a more peaceful, quiet location, more small town than NYC or Fla.

    I was raised on St.Thomas from 1965 ~ 1983, age 5 to 23.
I’ve always thought that if you grew up on a small rock, you could always go stateside & be fine. But it take a special person to grow up in the states and then move to a small rock. Even tho I now live stateside, I’ll always be a virgin islander. ??
To me it will always be home

I grew up with Carrie and her family. The maturation and global view of many ah We was and continues to be quite unexplainable, but thoroughly enjoyable for most of us. It truly was …well, Robinson Caruso back then. Our playgrounds were the ocean, the sea, and the Rock, and all the great hangouts. By the time we were 13 or 14, many of us shot all over STT and STJ by motorcycle. Fun? Rock living was island life at its best – back then.

Your quiz has some major gaps as it said I would only last 7 months and 35 years later I’m still here. It is what you make it and is what it is, my home! No intentions of ever moving back or elsewhere.

Came in 1875 to sort out my next project and avoid another Boston winter – still here – will never leave now – this is home – the people and accepting community are like no where else – no keep up with the Jones attitude – make do with what is here – be happy — don’t check too close or sweat the small stuff. I’ve now been here over a year. I don’t see myself leaving any time soon. We bought a house, I’ve adopted two black cats and my husband is due here soon, it’s a great life

I lived on STT from age 11 to 20. Many wonders that I miss, plenty of bad things that I still somehow remember fondly as my youth. Be warned: it is not the place to go if you have a problem with addiction, whether it is alcohol or drugs. My alcoholism started there. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis at age 47, like my father, who continued his alcoholism there after being diagnosed and died by the age of 48.
