Get High on an Airborne View of the Virgin Islands

Skydiving, Parasailing, Ziplining and Helicopter Tours around St. Thomas & St. John

Are you the type of traveler who simply can’t lounge around on vacation? Do you require an adrenaline boost in order to feel rejuvenated? Then you’ll want to incorporate one or more of these sky high activities into your Virgin Islands vacation itinerary.

If heights make your palms sweat and toes tingle, this kind of fun may not be for you…unless, that is, you’re in one of those fear-facing phases of personal growth. In which case, what are you waiting for? It’s time to buzz, jump, fly and zip!

Helicopter Tours of the Virgin Islands

By now you are probably familiar with the incredible drone photography taken from above the Virgin Islands. Now it’s your turn!  Helicopter tours give you a buzz and a perspective you just can’t get with your feet on the ground or under the water.  Without a doubt one of the most incredible activities I (Jennifer) have done with my children was to go on a private helicopter tour around and over our beloved St. John.

Pros: thrilling,  visual smorgasbord
Cons: Limited to 3 passengers. Trip is short, ranging from 30 to 60 mins.  A pricey activity.

Price: $185 pp for 30 min

Recommended for:  couples, athletic & adventurous

Skydiving in the Virgin Islands

Even if you’re a skydiving pro, jumping out of a plane over the gorgeous Virgin Islands is a whole new experience. This is a relatively new addition to the scene on St. Thomas and St. Croix, and people are loving it.

Pros: thrilling,  visual smorgasbord
Cons: Kind of scary. Not cheap.

Price: from $300

Recommended for:  couples, athletic & adventurous

Parasailing in the Virgin Islands

Feel like flying over the ocean blue? Then it’s time for you to get your parasail on!

You can go by yourself, but it’s more fun with two. And if three of you weigh less than 500 lbs, then you can do it triplet-style. This activity is available on both St. Thomas and St. John, and is a long-standing favorite way to see the VI from the sky…without getting too darn high.

Pros: No need to get wet, simultaneously exciting & serene, ride with friends, no hard work for you
Cons: It’s a rather short flight.

Price: from $85

Recommended for:  older children, couples, athletic & adventurous

Zip-Lining in the Virgin Islands

Get up close and personal with the rainforest side of St. Thomas’ personality. This is another relatively recent addition to the action on St. Thomas and it’s getting rave reviews. Zipping through the trees on St. Thomas’ lush North side above Magen’s Bay is an exhilarating way to experience the island.

Zippers must be at least 5 years old and weigh between 70 and 275 lbs. Children 5-7 years old are required to zip in tandem with a parent, as long as their dual weight doesn’t exceed the limit.

Pros: super fun at any age
Cons: You can’t take the course home with you to install in your backyard.

Price: $100 (+/-)

Recommended for:  older children, couples, athletic & adventurous
